A silent prayer

  One small sigh after another.
Grateful for the joyful hugs and
recognition. Still all I could think
about was the warmth of layers of blankets.

   Soothing eyes to close. Only
did I realize I have, must stay awake
for one more hour.

Oh a cat nap sounds grand
but will my soul even wake from one?
So heavy are the lids. So certain
how busy the day must go.

Hoping for six hours of sleep
to hold me up for fourteen. Yawning.
Eyes drooping. Holding head up
only to feel myself nod off once more.

Ah I beg Jehovah to keep me
awake for this one more hour.

   Tiny whispers escape my
lips. Chapping them as I run
out of breath.

   Holding tightly to knowledge.
I seek help to keep alert of surroundings.

   Oh Jehovah hear my silent
prayer.
